Sala Kongresowa

reprezentacyjna sala Pałacu Kultury i Nauki. Miejsce licznych widowisk, spotkań i koncertów

Sala Kongresowa to największy obiekt koncertowo-konferencyjny w Polsce. Liczące 2880 widzów pomieszczenie stanowi integralną część Pałacu Kultury i Nauki, otwartego w centrum Warszawy w lipcu 1955 r.

W 2006 r., w Sali Kongresowej miała miejsce finałowa gala wyborów Miss World, a w 2010 r. losowano tu grupy eliminacyjne Mistrzostw Europy w piłce nożnej, EURO 2012.

Czy wiesz, że… ?

  • Z koncertem Rolling Stonesów wiąże się wiele legend. Według jednej z nich, występ muzyków opłacono, dostarczając im dwa wagony wódki! Gwiazdorom zabroniono jednak wywozu alkoholu.
  • Obecnie we wnętrzach Kongresowej trwa remont. Jego zakończenie planuje się na 2017 r.

a representative hall in the Palace of Culture and Science. Venue of numerous shows, meetings and concerts

Congress Hall is the largest concert and conference facility in Poland. The auditorium which can accommodate 2,880 guests is an integral part of the Palace of Culture and Science, opened in the centre of Warsaw in July 1955.

Originally, Congress Hall was the venue of congresses (hence its name) - meetings of Communist Party activists and meetings of other political organizations. It was also here, where the last meeting of the Communist authorities convened in January 1990, after which the Communist Party flag was once and for all removed (its fate today is not known) from the building.

The interior of the hall consists of three levels - the amphitheatre, lodge and balconies. An interesting, circular form of Congress Hall, was designed in the style of socialist realism, and provides excellent acoustics, favouring organization of numerous musical events.

In 1967 the Congress Hall was the venue for a memorable concert of the Rolling Stones. It was the first time in history when an American band performed in a country behind the Iron Curtain. Tickets for the Stones sold like hot cakes (they were distributed by party activists), and the hall was filled to the brim. According to some records, it accommodated 5 thousand spectators during the concert!

Besides concerts, Congress Hall is the place for regular meetings of companies and corporations. Many cultural and commercial international events, eg. International Book Fair are organized here. In 2006 the final gala of Miss World, and in 2010 a drawing for the elimination groups of UEFA European Football Championship, EURO 2012 were held in Congress Hall.

Do you know?

  • There are many legends surrounding the Rolling Stones concert. According to one of them, the performance of the musicians was paid, providing them with two wagons of vodka! The band was forbidden, however, to take the alcohol out of the country. Apparently, the Stones were so furious that they swore they would never come back to Poland. In fact, they returned to the country twice - in 1998 and 2007.
  • The Congress Hall also hosts fashion shows. In 1965 famous fashion house Christian Dior presented its winter collection here.
  • In 2008 the auditorium was closed for three days, fearing the collapse of the roof structure.
  • Today, Congress Hall is undergoing renovation. Its completion is planned for 2017.
